Game Changers Lions Win Season 4 Opener, Edge Panthers 14-12 in Mumbai

Game Changers Lions picked up their first win of World Padel League season 4, beating Hubtown Panorama Panthers 14-12 on day two in Mumbai.

A three-set decider

The Lions took the opening women's doubles set as Paula Josemaria and Beatriz Gonzalez beat Marta Caparros and Marta Barrera 6-2. Panthers hit back in the men's doubles, with Juan Tello and Eduardo Alonso beating Gonzalo Alfonso and Sanyo Gutierrez 6-2 to level the tie at 8-8 on games.

The mixed doubles decider went the Lions' way. Federico Mourino and Teodoro Zapata trailed Enrique Goenaga and Rama Valenzuela 4-1 before winning five straight games to close it out 6-4, sealing the match 14-12 on aggregate games.

Standings

Panthers stay top of the WPL table on 28 points after two matches, even after the defeat. Lions move up to fourth with 14 points from their tournament opener.

World Padel League uses a total-games format: every tie is split into a women's doubles set, a men's doubles set and a mixed doubles set, and the team with more games across all three wins, regardless of how many sets each side takes. Season 4 continues at the Dome, SVP Stadium, through August 16, with an eliminator and qualifier before the semi-finals and final.
