Coello and Tapia stunned in Pretoria: No. 7 seeds Leal and Guerrero reach their first final

Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia are out of the Pretoria P1. The world No. 1s lost their semifinal 7-5, 7-5 to Javi Leal and Fran Guerrero on Saturday, and the two young Spaniards go through to their first Premier Padel final on Sunday.

The upset

Leal and Guerrero, the No. 7 seeds, never let the top pair settle. They edged the first set 7-5 and repeated the scoreline in the second to close it out in straight sets. It caps a breakthrough week. In the quarterfinals the same pair saved match points to beat Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger 6-7(2), 7-5, 7-6(11), so the semifinal win was no fluke.

Galan and Chingotto are waiting

In the other semifinal, the No. 2 seeds Ale Galan and Fede Chingotto beat Juanlu Esbri and Sanyo Gutierrez 7-5, 6-4 to book their place. They walk into the final as favorites against a pair playing at this stage for the first time.

What's at stake

Pretoria is the first Premier Padel event held in Sub-Saharan Africa, staged at the SunBet Arena at Time Square. The men's final is set for Sunday, August 2.
