Galan and Chingotto win the Pretoria P1 in a third-set tie-break; Triay and Brea take the women's title

Ale Galan and Fede Chingotto won the Pretoria P1 on Sunday, holding off first-time finalists Javi Leal and Fran Guerrero 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 to close out Premier Padel's first tournament on African soil.

The No. 2 seeds looked in control after a one-sided opener, but Leal and Guerrero dragged the final into a decider and even earned match points before Galan and Chingotto edged the tie-break. It's their first title in nearly three months, and it came the hard way against the pair that had knocked out world No. 1s Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia in the semifinals.

Triay and Brea follow the same script

The women's final ran along near-identical lines. Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea beat the young Spanish pair Martina Calvo and Claudia Fernandez 6-2, 6-7, 7-6, surviving a mid-match wobble that saw Calvo and Fernandez serve for the title before falling in the third-set tie-break. It's back-to-back for Triay and Brea after their Malaga P1 win.

A first for African padel

Pretoria hosted the tour's debut event on the continent, and both finals delivered - two three-setters settled by tie-breaks on the same afternoon. The young challengers pushed the established pairs to the brink, but the experience of Galan, Chingotto, Triay and Brea just about held.
