Kuwait Gets Promoted to a Major as Premier Padel Reshuffles the Fall Calendar

Premier Padel has promoted next week's Kuwait event from a P1 to a Major, filling the hole left by the postponed Qatar Major. The upgrade, confirmed by Premier Padel and the International Padel Federation, applies only to the 2026 season and takes effect for the October 26-31 tournament.

Why the switch happened

The Ooredoo Qatar Major was pushed back after organizers cited operational disruptions tied to the war in Iran, which complicated travel and logistics across the region. Rather than leave a Major-sized hole in the fall schedule, Premier Padel and FIP agreed to bump Kuwait up instead of trying to reschedule Doha on short notice. Pretoria also moved up a tier, from P2 to P1, as part of the same reshuffle.

What changes for players

A Major carries far more ranking points and prize money than a standard P1, so results in Kuwait will count for a lot more than players expected when the calendar was first published back in February. The federation says the bump is a one-time fix for 2026, not a permanent reclassification, and Kuwait is expected to return to P1 status next season.

Good timing for the tour

The timing works out well for the Premier Padel schedule. Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello just wrapped up their 12th title of the year at the Oysho Milano P1, beating Juan Lebron and Leandro Augsburger 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday for their fourth straight title. Kuwait is now the next big test on the calendar, and it arrives with a bigger prize than organizers originally planned.

FAQ

Why was the Kuwait Premier Padel event upgraded to a Major?

Is Kuwait's Major status permanent?

No. The federation says the upgrade applies only to the 2026 season. Kuwait is expected to return to P1 status in future years.

When is the Kuwait Major being played?
