Alonso and Goni Stun Madrid Finalists Nieto and Yanguas at Paris Major

Edu Alonso and Aimar Goni beat Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas 6-4, 6-3 in the round of 16 at the Paris Major on Thursday, denying a rematch of last month's Madrid P1 final.

Madrid finalists fall early

Nieto and Yanguas reached the final in Madrid, where they lost the title match to Ale Galan and Fede Chingotto. In Paris the pair could not find that same level. Alonso and Goni broke through in the opening set and closed out the win in straight sets at Roland Garros.

The result sends Alonso and Goni into the quarterfinals against Galan and Chingotto, who beat Alex Chozas and Juani De Pascual 6-3, 6-2 in their own round of 16 match. It is a familiar name from Madrid, only this time it is Alonso and Goni standing across the net from the champions instead of Nieto and Yanguas.

The Paris Major runs at Roland Garros through Sunday, with the semifinals set for Saturday and the final closing out the week.
