Velasco and Eugenio Stun Seventh Seeds Guinart and Alonso in Milano Upset

Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio pulled off the biggest upset of the women's draw at the Milano P1, beating seventh seeds Marina Guinart and Ale Alonso 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the round of 32 on Tuesday.

A set down, then a turnaround

Guinart and Alonso took the first set at the Allianz Cloud, but Velasco and Eugenio leveled with a 6-4 second set and closed it out 7-5 in a decider. The match stretched past two hours and 24 minutes.

What's next

The win sends Velasco and Eugenio into the round of 16 against Carolina Orsi and Patty Llaguno, who also needed a comeback to get there. Orsi and Llaguno dropped the first set to Sofia Saiz and Marta Talavan before closing it out 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the same venue.

The bigger picture in Milan

The Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1 runs from October 12 to 18 at the Allianz Cloud, the fifth year the tour has stopped in the city. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia are chasing a fourth straight title after wins in Paris, Rotterdam and Dusseldorf, while Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan are defending their 2025 men's crown. The women's main draw only opened this week, so Velasco and Eugenio's win was one of the first results fans saw from that side of the bracket.
