Malaga P1 quarterfinals set: Coello-Tapia and Galan-Chingotto through as Goni and Alonso spring the shock

World No. 1 Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia and second-ranked Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto both eased into the Malaga P1 quarterfinals, which get underway Friday at the Martin Carpena arena.

Top seeds stay on a collision course

Coello and Tapia kept their title defence rolling with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Tolito Aguirre and Alex Arroyo. They now meet the surprise package of the week, Aimar Goni and Edu Alonso. Galan and Chingotto were even more ruthless, brushing aside Juan Tello and Maxi Arce 6-2, 6-3, and they take on Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal next. If the seeds hold their nerve, the two best pairs on tour would collide again in the semifinals, a rematch of the rivalry that's shaped the 2026 season.

Goni and Alonso deliver the upset

The round of 16's biggest story came from Goni and Alonso. The young Spanish duo knocked out the No. 5 seeds Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in a three-set thriller, the standout result of a packed day at the Carpena. Their reward is a center-court date with the world No. 1s on Friday.

Women's draw: Triay-Brea vs Icardo-Jensen leads the last eight

On the women's side, Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea face Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen in the pick of the quarterfinals. Second seeds Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez meet the in-form Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga in the other half.
