Malaga P1 qualifying starts Saturday, main draw follows Monday

Premier Padel's Malaga P1 gets going on Saturday, when qualifying begins at the Palacio de Deportes Jose Maria Martin Carpena. It's the tour's third year running in the Andalusian city, and the main draw follows on Monday, July 13.

Who plays when

The qualifying rounds come first, with men's and women's hopefuls chasing the last main-draw places across the weekend. The seeds don't wait long after that. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, the world No. 1 men's pair, open in the round of 32 midweek, sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday, and second seeds Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto join them. The women's top seeds start on Thursday, July 16, led by local favorite Bea Gonzalez.

Why it matters

Malaga is padel country. Organizers count 14 players from the region inside the FIP top 150, so the Martin Carpena crowd will have plenty to cheer before the finals on Sunday, July 19. There's roughly 470,000 euros in prize money on the line across the two draws, and the same four pairs that split the last two P2 finals headline a field that runs deep.
