Coello and Tapia open Malaga title defence against Gala and Jensen

Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia know who stands in their way first. The world No. 1s open their Malaga Premier Padel P1 title defence against David Gala and Enzo Jensen, the pair that came through the opening round on Monday to book the meeting.

Coello and Tapia had a bye into the second round as top seeds. Gala and Jensen beat Victor Ruiz and Mario Ortega 6-3, 6-4 to set up the tie. It's a daunting draw for the underdogs. Tapia and Coello arrive in Malaga as winners of their last four tournaments, the most recent the Bordeaux P2 on July 5.

Going for three in a row

Malaga has been kind to the top seeds. They won the title here in 2024 and again in 2025, beating Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan 6-4, 7-5 in last year's final in front of more than 10,000 fans at the Palacio Martin Carpena. Lift the trophy again on Sunday and it's three straight in the city.

The other half of the draw

Galan and Chingotto are seeded second and sit on the opposite side of the bracket, so the tour's defining rivalry can only meet again in the final on July 19. In the women's draw, Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea are the top seeds, while home favourite Bea Gonzalez defends her Malaga title alongside Paula Josemaria.

For now the champions can't look that far ahead. Beat Gala and Jensen, and the defence is properly under way.
