Stupaczuk and Sanz Fall in Madrid P1 Round of 16, Weeks After Belgrade Title

Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz are out of the Madrid P1. Jose Jimenez and Alex Arroyo beat the pair 7-6, 6-4 in the round of 16 on Thursday at the Movistar Arena, handing the tournament its first big upset.

A tough script for the new pair

Stupaczuk and Sanz arrived in Madrid on a high. The pairing had just won the FIP Gold title in Belgrade, their first tournament together after Stupaczuk split from long-time partner Mike Yanguas earlier this season. They opened Madrid with a round of 32 win, but Jimenez and Arroyo had other plans in the next round.

The first set went to a tiebreak, and Jimenez and Arroyo closed it out before breaking through again in the second to seal the match in one hour and 25 minutes.
