Stupaczuk and Sanz Stun Champions Chingotto and Galan to Reach Dusseldorf Final
Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz knocked out defending champions Fede Chingotto and Alejandro Galan in the Germany P2 semifinals in Dusseldorf, winning 7-6(3), 6-4 to reach their second final together.
A tight first set, then control
Stupaczuk and Sanz needed a tiebreak to take the opening set against Chingotto and Galan, who had won the Dusseldorf title the last two years running. Once they closed out the tiebreak, the fourth seeds carried that momentum into the second set and closed it out 6-4 to book their spot in Sunday's final.
Tapia and Coello also through
In the other semifinal, top seeds Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello beat Robert Augsburger and Juan Lebron 6-2, 6-3 to set up a final against Stupaczuk and Sanz. Tapia and Coello arrived in Germany after title runs in Paris and Rotterdam and remain the heavy favorites, but Stupaczuk and Sanz reached the Rotterdam final together earlier this month and have been one of the tour's most dangerous new pairings since joining forces in Belgrade in August.
What it means for the title race
A win for Stupaczuk and Sanz would be their second Premier Padel P2 title since teaming up, while a Tapia-Coello win would extend their hold on the men's tour this season. The final is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at 2pm local time at the CASTELLO venue in Dusseldorf.
