Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia are Dusseldorf champions. The world number one pair beat Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz 6-2, 7-6(5) in Sunday's Germany P2 final, claiming their 11th title of the season and a third straight after Paris and Rotterdam.
A tight second set
Coello and Tapia cruised through the first set 6-2, but Stupaczuk and Sanz refused to fold. They broke serve to lead 6-5 in the second set and had a real chance to force a decider. The top seeds held firm, leveled at 6-6 and won the tiebreak 7-5 to close out the match in straight sets.
It is the pair's first title at the Dusseldorf event. A year ago they lost this same final to Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto, 6-7, 2-6. This time Galan and Chingotto never made it that far. Stupaczuk and Sanz knocked out the defending champions in the semifinals before running into Coello and Tapia again.
Same final as Rotterdam
The Dusseldorf final was a repeat of the Rotterdam P2 final just a week earlier, which Coello and Tapia also won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Stupaczuk, ranked No. 8 in the world, and Sanz, ranked No. 10, have now lost back-to-back finals to the top seeds but keep forcing their way into the title match.
Coello and Tapia's season now reads 11 titles. The Premier Padel tour moves on to Milan next, where the pair will try to extend their run.
