Spain and Argentina Set Up Rematch in FIP Senior World Cup Men's Final

Spain and Argentina will meet again in the FIP Senior World Cup men's final in Buenos Aires. Argentina, the host nation, blanked Italy 4-0 in Friday's semifinal. Spain eliminated France 3-0 on the other side of the draw.

How Argentina got there

Argentina's veterans didn't drop a set against Italy. Tito Allemandi and Miguel Lamperti won 6-0, 6-0 in the +45 category against Marcelo Capitani and Matteo Savoldi. Cristian Gutierrez and Agustin Gomez Silingo took the +40 rubber 6-1, 6-0 over William Rota and Barnaba Zanon. Alejandro Novillo and Alejandro Lasaigues closed it out in the +60 group, beating Matteo Bartolini and Maurizio Serafino 6-4, 6-3.

Spain's route through France

Spain needed three rubbers to seal its spot. Aday Santana and Javi Limones won the +45 tie 6-2, 6-2 against Romain Coirault and Arnaud Clement. Enric Sanmarti and Gerard Company took the +40 group 6-1, 6-0 over Norman Sanchez and Morgan Mannarino. Pablo Semprun and Carlos Almazan sealed it in the +60 category, 6-0, 6-2 against Jean-Marc Lagloire and Stephane Serre. Spain had reached the semifinal by beating Portugal in the quarterfinal, while France got there by eliminating the Netherlands.

A final rerun

Argentina beat Spain in the last Senior World Cup final to win the title, and the two nations now meet again two years later, this time with Argentina on home turf. Spain's men have been close to flawless through the knockout rounds in Buenos Aires, having also opened the finals phase with a 5-0 sweep of Egypt. The result closes out the fourth edition of the FIP Senior World Cup, the first ever held in Argentina.
