David Gala Wins Inaugural FIP Gold Sao Paulo for Second Continent in a Week

David Gala capped one of the busiest weeks on the Cupra FIP Tour by winning the first FIP Gold ever held in South America, teaming with Maximiliano Arce to beat Jose Antonio Diestro and Juanlu Esbri 6-4, 6-4 in the men's final at Arena BTG in Sao Paulo on Sunday.

A title on two continents in seven days

The Spaniard had already lifted a Gold trophy the previous weekend in Bucharest, partnering Enzo Jensen. Backing that up with a second Gold title in Brazil, alongside a new partner, put Gala on a short list of players who have won titles on different continents in the same week. The second-seeded pair needed just 1 hour and 24 minutes to close out the final, their first title together.

Velasco and Eugenio complete the sweep

The women's final went the distance. Top seeds Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio held off fellow Spaniards Lorena Rufo and Jessica Castello 7-6(5), 6-4 in 1 hour and 37 minutes, sealing their own first title as a pair. They dropped a break early in the second set before pulling clear to close it out.

A new market for the tour

Arena BTG hosted the tournament from September 16 to 20 as the sport's governing body pushed the Gold category into a new market. The event carried a 50,000 euro prize pool, with champions collecting 150 ranking points and 6,250 euros per pair. Local organizers also brought in young players from a padel project in Rinopolis to work as ball handlers during the week.
