Nieto-Yanguas and Stupaczuk-Sanz Both Win on Belgrade Debut as New Pairings Click

Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas needed only 40 minutes to win their first match together at FIP Gold Belgrade on Wednesday, beating Victor Tur Checa and Agustin Reca 6-1, 6-0. The top seeds had reunited for this event after playing with other partners last season, and the scoreline suggested there was little rust to shake off.

Second seeds Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz, also teaming up for the first time, were pushed a little harder but still cruised past Luque and Vazquez 6-3, 6-2. Both new pairs move into Thursday's round of 16 having dropped a combined total of six games across four sets.

Seeds mostly hold, one falls early

Seven of the eight seeded men's pairs advanced through the opening round at Padel Center Belgrade Waterfront. The exception was 11th seed Alvaro Cepero and Hami Golestan, who were eliminated by Nicolas Zurita and Samuel Rivas in the day's biggest surprise.

The women's draw was tidier at the top: all eight seeded pairs won their openers. Ale Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro were the most emphatic, blanking Serbian lucky losers Stojacic and Novcic 6-0, 6-0. Third seeds Marta Talavan and Jessica Castello had the closest call of the day, dropping the first set 4-6 to Portilla and Ordonez before rallying to win 6-2, 6-3.

What's next

Nieto and Yanguas will face Fran Ramirez and Michal Skonieczny in the last 16 on Thursday, while Stupaczuk and Sanz take on Gustavo Nunes and Pedro Perry. FIP Gold Belgrade runs through Sunday at the Belgrade Waterfront, with 150 ranking points on offer to the men's and women's champions.
