Three of the top four seeded pairs are out of the men's draw at the CUPRA Rotterdam P2 after a quarterfinal day that reshuffled the field. The biggest shock came late: Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz beat second seeds Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto 6-4, 6-4 to reach the semifinals.
A rough day for the seeds
Galan and Chingotto were not the only big name to fall. Third seeds Juan Lebron and Leandro Augsburger lost to Miguel Yanguas and Jorge Nieto Ruiz 7-6, 6-3, and fourth seeds Martin Di Nenno and Francisco Navarro went out to eighth seeds Jeronimo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo in a tight 2-6, 7-6, 7-5 battle.
Only the top seeds held firm. Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello needed three sets to get past Valentino Libaak and Gonzalo Alfonso, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 after dropping the opener.
Semifinal lineup
Four pairs are left standing heading into Saturday's semifinals. Tapia and Coello face Gonzalez and Campagnolo, the pair that just eliminated the fourth seeds. In the other half, Stupaczuk and Sanz take on Yanguas and Nieto Ruiz for a place in Sunday's final.
Nobody left in the draw has a guaranteed path back to a Rotterdam title. This has been one of the most unpredictable quarterfinal rounds the event has produced, and the semifinals look just as open.
