Coello and Tapia Open Paris Major Title Defense at Roland Garros

The Paris Major gets underway this week at Roland Garros, and the two pairs who lifted last year's trophies are back to defend them. Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello, plus Delfina Brea and Gemma Triay, open their title defense as qualifying wraps up and the main draw begins.

Where and when

The tournament runs September 6 through 13 at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, the fifth time Premier Padel has staged a Major at the clay-court home of the French Open. Organizers built six courts on the grounds this year, including one set up on Philippe-Chatrier. Qualifying started over the weekend, and first-round main draw matches begin Monday afternoon.

Defending the title

Tapia and Coello beat Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto 6-1, 6-4 in last year's men's final, part of a season in which the pair piled up titles across the tour. On the women's side, Brea and Triay beat Marta Ortega and Bea Icardo 7-5, 6-2 to take the 2025 crown.

Both pairs arrive in Paris fresh off Madrid, where Galan and Chingotto won the men's P1 title and Triay and Brea took the women's. That sets up an early-season rematch of last September's finals, just three weeks after the Madrid trophies were handed out.

What to watch

Qualifying only wrapped this week and the main draw is just getting underway, so the early rounds will show whether either defending pair carries its Madrid form into Paris, or whether the chasing pack finds an opening on the Roland Garros courts.
