Orsi and Llaguno Outlast Saiz and Talavan to Reach Milano P1 Round of 16

Carolina Orsi and Patty Llaguno are through to the round of 16 at the Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1 after beating Sofia Saiz and Marta Talavan 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Tuesday at the Allianz Cloud.

A slow start, then control

Orsi and Llaguno dropped the first set before settling into a rhythm against Saiz and Talavan. Orsi said afterward it wasn't an easy match and that the opening set was close even though both sides missed chances. She and Llaguno had faced the same pair on the same court last year, in a match that ran past two hours when Orsi was still partnered with Martina Fassio.

Next up: the Perugia rematch

Orsi and Llaguno now face Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio, who beat them in the FIP Gold semifinals in Perugia earlier this month. The two pairs are split 1-1 head to head, with Orsi and Llaguno's win coming at the Premier Padel P1 in Madrid. Orsi called the match tougher than it looks on paper but said she and Llaguno can win it.

A win would send them into the quarterfinals for the first time in Orsi's career, likely against top seeds Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea. Orsi, recently named to Italy's squad for the World Cup in Qatar, said the focus stays on one match at a time.
