Dal Pozzo and Rodriguez Fall to Salazar and Osoro in Milano Round of 16

Giulia Dal Pozzo and Nuria Rodriguez are out of the Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1 after Ale Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro beat them 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 16 at the Allianz Cloud.

A good week ends in Milan

Dal Pozzo and Rodriguez had arrived in Milan in form. The pair won the FIP Silver Porec-Parenzo in Croatia the week before the P1, and Dal Pozzo was already a semifinalist at the Rome Major this season. They opened the main draw with a 6-0, 6-3 win over fellow Italians Giorgia Marchetti and Lara Arruabarrena, a result that looked like the start of another deep run.

Salazar and Osoro had their own straight-sets opener, beating Alix Collombon and Ksenia Sharifova 6-0, 6-3, and that form carried into the round of 16. Salazar and Osoro broke serve twice in the first set to go up 6-4, then pulled away in the second to close it out 6-2 and reach the quarterfinals.

What it means for the draw

The result keeps Salazar, a former world number one, alive in a tournament she has not won before, while it ends the week early for a Dal Pozzo-Rodriguez pairing that had looked like one of the form teams heading into the Allianz Cloud. Milan is the last regular-season Premier Padel P1 of the year, adding extra weight to every ranking point on the line this week.
