Araujo Siblings Blank Cyprus to Reach Mediterranean Games Mixed Semifinal

Sofia Araujo and her brother Pedro Araujo beat Cyprus's Maria Siopacha and Sergis Kyratzis 6-2, 6-2 in the mixed doubles quarterfinal at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, sending the Portuguese pair through to Thursday's semifinal.

A clean two-set win

The siblings, who play for Portugal, dropped just four games across the match at the Salinella Mediterranean Park courts. Padel FIP and Portugal's Record both confirmed the 6-2, 6-2 scoreline. Pedro, who goes by 'Peu' back home, has said sharing the mixed doubles court with his sister makes this run feel bigger than a normal tournament stop.

Greece up next

Portugal's reward is a semifinal against Greece's Pavlos-Louis Balafas and Christina-Styliani Ntanou, who also won their quarterfinal and moved through to Thursday. Record reported the pairing directly, and it lines up with Padel FIP's own coverage of both results landing on the same day of play.

The winner advances to Friday's 'Super Friday' session, when Taranto crowns the first-ever Mediterranean Games padel champions across the men's, women's and mixed events. Padel is making its debut as a medal sport at these Games.
