Triay and Brea chase a fast answer at the Malaga P1 after Bordeaux shock

Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea open the Andalucia Malaga Premier Padel P1 on Thursday carrying something they rarely do: a loss in their last final. The world No. 1 pair are seeded first here, and they arrive looking for a fast answer to the upset that ended their week in France.

What happened in Bordeaux

Last Sunday they were a set up in the Bordeaux P2 final. Then it slipped away. Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen, seeded fifth, took the last two sets to win 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. Icardo and Jensen had lost every previous meeting with them, so the result landed as a genuine shock - and it gave Icardo her first Premier Padel title since 2021.

The Malaga draw

The main draw runs at Malaga's Palacio de Deportes Jose Maria Martin Carpena from July 13, with the top four seeds given byes into the round of 16. Triay and Brea head the list. Behind them come Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez (2), Ariana Sanchez and Andrea Ustero (3), and Sofia Araujo and Claudia Fernandez (4). The final is set for Sunday, July 19.
