Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez trailed 0-5 in the deciding set and were a point from elimination before ripping off seven straight games to beat Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 in the Madrid P1 semifinal on Saturday.

A match that looked over

Fernandez and Calvo, the reigning London P1 champions, took the second set 6-2 to level the match after dropping the opener 4-6. They then raced to a 5-0 lead in the decider and held match point while serving at 5-3. That is where the collapse began. Josemaria and Gonzalez saved the match point, broke back, and did not lose another game the rest of the way.

Second-seeded pair reaches the final

The number 2 seeds now face top seeds Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, who beat Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero 6-2, 6-4 earlier in the day, in an all-Spanish women's final at the Movistar Arena on Sunday.

Men's final set too

Earlier Saturday, Ale Galan and Fede Chingotto beat Inigo Jofre and Jairo Bautista 6-3, 6-4 to reach a third straight Madrid final. Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas held off Tino Libaak and Gonza Alfonso 6-4, 7-6 to book their second final together in as many weeks, saving seven set points along the way in the second-set tiebreak.
