Galan and Chingotto Survive Three-Setter to Win Madrid P1

Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto won their seventh Premier Padel title of the season on September 6, beating Jorge "Coki" Nieto and Mike Yanguas 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the Madrid P1 final at Movistar Arena. The match ran two hours and 43 minutes. Nieto and Yanguas forced a decider by taking the second set, but Galan and Chingotto broke serve at 4-4 in the third and served out the win.

A homegrown final

Both Galan and Nieto grew up playing padel in Madrid, and the final marked the first time two Madrid-born players had met for the men's title at their home tournament. It was Galan's second Madrid P1 crown; he won the same event in 2022 alongside Juan Lebron. The result also tightened the year-end Race to Barcelona standings, cutting the gap between Galan and Chingotto and world number ones Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia to under 500 points.

Triay and Brea rally from a set down

In the women's final, top seeds Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea lost a tight opening set 6-7 before turning the match around to beat Bea Gonzalez and Paula Josemaria 6-3, 6-3. It was the pair's sixth title together this season and denied Gonzalez and Josemaria a shot at a sixth straight trophy. Brea clashed with the chair umpire during the second set after a video review, but the disagreement did not slow her down. She and Triay closed out the last two sets in style, sealing a 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 win.

Galan and Chingotto now sit within striking distance of the top ranking heading into the fall swing, while Triay and Brea have opened real daylight over Gonzalez and Josemaria in a rivalry that has defined the women's tour all year.
