Coello and Tapia Chase a Ninth Title as Madrid P1 Opens

Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia open the Comunidad de Madrid P1 as the No. 1 seeds, chasing what would be their ninth title of a season that already reads like a highlight reel.

A season nobody else is having

The Spanish-Argentine duo arrive in Madrid straight off the London P1, where they beat Federico Chingotto and Alejandro Galan 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 for their eighth trophy of 2026. That run has also taken in wins in Riyadh, Cancun, Rome, Valencia, Valladolid, Bordeaux and Malaga. Nobody else on tour is within shouting distance of that total right now.

Home ground, bigger stakes

Qualifying wrapped up Monday at Pro Padel Coslada, and the main draw shifts to the Movistar Arena on Tuesday. It is a big field this time around: 48 pairs in the men's draw and 28 in the women's, competing for a share of a 479,068 euro prize pool. The final is set for Sunday, September 6 at 4pm.

Who stands in the way

Chingotto and Galan, still smarting from that London final, headline the chasing pack. A rematch with the London runners-up would be the final Madrid crowds are hoping for, though both pairs still have to get through a loaded 48-team draw first.

Claudia Fernandez, last year's women's champion, is also back in Madrid chasing a third straight title on home soil, giving the week a second big storyline to follow.
