Triay and Brea start the London P1 as favourites against Rufo and Iglesias

Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea take their unbeaten stretch into Olympia this afternoon, opening their London P1 campaign against Lorena Rufo and Victoria Iglesias in the round of 16.

Straight into the last 16

As the top seeds in the women's draw, Triay and Brea skipped the earlier rounds and enter at the round of 16, the standard format for the leading pairs on the Premier Padel tour. It is their first match at the tournament, and the tour's first ever event in Britain.

The pair arrive with real momentum. They lifted the title in Pretoria last week and sit at No. 1 in the latest FIP world rankings, a position they have held since the tour left Malaga.

How Rufo and Iglesias got here

Rufo and Iglesias are not making up the numbers. They beat Giorgia Marchetti and Lara Arruabarrena 7-6, 6-2 in the previous round to book their spot against the top seeds, a result that took a tight opening set before it swung their way.

What's next

A win keeps Triay and Brea on course for the quarterfinals later this week, where several of the other seeded pairs are also expected to arrive. A shock exit would blow open the top half of the draw on Premier Padel's first visit to the UK.
