Agustin Tapia and Arturo Coello landed in Kuwait this week with a four-title winning streak behind them and a big cushion at the top of the world rankings, making them the team to beat when the newly elevated Kuwait Major gets underway on Friday.
A fourth straight title in Milan
Coello and Tapia beat Juan Lebron and Leandro Augsburger 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final of the Oysho Milano Premier Padel P1 on October 18, rallying after dropping the opening set. It was their fourth consecutive title, following wins in Paris, Rotterdam and Dusseldorf, and the 12th of their 2026 season. The Allianz Cloud crowd of 38,794 was up 9.3 percent on the 2025 edition.
"We had only one key to win: keep playing, and that's what we did," Coello said after the match. Tapia called it "an incredible week in a beautiful city," adding that the pair "ran, fought and gave everything in the third set."
A commanding lead at the top
The win stretched the Spanish-Argentine pair's lead atop the FIP world ranking. As of October 19, Coello and Tapia each sat on 20,409 points, more than 3,000 clear of Alejandro Galan and Federico Chingotto, who are tied for third with 16,997. Galan and Chingotto lost in the Milan semifinals to Lebron and Augsburger, a week after also falling short against the same rivals in Germany.
Kuwait steps up in class
Kuwait was originally slated as a P1 event, but Premier Padel and the FIP upgraded it to Major status for this season only, after the Ooredoo Qatar Major was postponed. The main draw runs October 25 to 31 at the Arena Kuwait in Hawalli, with men's and women's finals both scheduled for Saturday, October 31. The tournament carries a prize purse of more than 1 million euros and offers 2,000 FIP points to each champion pair, the same points on offer at any other Major this season.
Qualifying starts Friday, October 23. The entry list was not yet posted as of this writing, but as the top-ranked team by a wide margin, Tapia and Coello are all but certain to carry the top seed into the draw.
