Fernandez and Melendez Amaya win the FIP Silver Irish Open Dublin in three sets

Antonio Fernandez and Pedro Melendez Amaya are the FIP Silver Hiscox Padel Irish Open Dublin champions, beating fellow Spaniards Adrian Ronco Lopez and Pepe Aliaga in Sunday's final. The second seeds needed three sets to close out the biggest men's padel title on offer in Ireland this week.

How the men's final went

Ronco Lopez and Aliaga took the opening set and made the seeds work for everything. Fernandez and Melendez Amaya steadied, edged a tight second set on the tie-break, and pulled clear in the decider for a 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 win. Both pairs had earned it the hard way. Fernandez and Melendez Amaya got past Sans and Nunes in the semifinals, while Ronco Lopez and Aliaga came through against Dorta Diaz and Sanchez Arriaga.

Women's title stays with the favourites

Noemi Aguilar Carrillo and Letizia Maria Manquillo Alarza won the women's draw, beating the home crowd's pick of Catherine Rose and Aimee Gibson 6-2, 7-5. Rose and Gibson reached the final in good form and had Dublin behind them, but the Spanish pair controlled the key points and never let the second set slip.
